Teliani Valley is a large, modern winery in Georgia making both European style wines and the traditional qvevri wines. Fermented on skins for part of the process in an underground clay amphora (qvevri) this wine is a reflection of 8000 years of winemaking history.
Saperavi is the most common indigenous red grape in Georgia. it is unusual in that it has both red skins and red juice and consequently produces a wine of inky darkness. There's plenty of ripe red fruits, some plum notes then lots of vanilla and chocolate.
This is a highly tannic wine, delicious with red meat, but it does need a little breather in a decanter to get the best from it.
