"A trio of winemakers pushing out some interesting wines under this Vanguardist/La Petite Vanguard label. Here's Blewitt Springs Grenache given full carbonic maceration and it's a mix of whole bunch and destemmed (and mixed) in the various ferments that make up this wine. It's a wicked drink with a light chill, but shows some elegance off the cuff. Actually, it's super delicious. Super delicious, says the echo. Sleek, slippery, bright and cherry red of sweet musk fragrance and flavours reminiscent of berry fruits with bits of briar left int he pot. The gist is, a lightish, simple red that's an impeccable drink, with glide across the palate, a crisp finish and a sense of refreshment while drinking. Pitch perfect summer red. High fives all around. It's a case buy, not a bottle." Mike Bennie, The Wine Front (92 Points)
Several 1 tonne ferments were used in the making of this wine. Around 8 separate batches were combined to create the final blend. 100% whole bunch carbonic, through to fully destemmed and all in between. Plenty of feet in these at times. Delicate handling, old small and large oak, gravity racking were the techniques used. The final blend finally sits at around 50% whole bunch.
This was then followed by a couple of rackings by gravity, and final blending before being bottled in September without fining or filtration or addition of preservative SO2.
