This distinctive red wine is grown in Khvanchkara, in the Racha-Lechkhumi region of north west Georgia. This is a mountainous region and the thin-skinned grape loves the altitude and the long sunlight hours. Aleksandrouli is very different from the big, tannic reds of Georgia's east and the Kakheti region. This is all about the delicate perfume of blackberries and wild cherries. Traditonal qvevri production highlights the minerality of the fine without losing the fine acidity or delightful fresh fruit aromas.
