Vilana is one of the queens of indigenous Cretan grape varieties, saved from extinction by concerned winemakers on Crete.. This one from Lyrarakis winery near Heraklion and with vineyards at about 600m, is full of citrus and white peach with a light, herbal aroma. The mouthfeel is almost creamy, with a lingering finish. This wine loves all kinds of Mediterranean food - pair it up with a rich spinach and cheese pie and a big Greek salad or with substantial winter-style soups.
