Over at Abel, at the top of the South Island, they make two things. A fantastic Chardonnay and this cider. This is what happens when a good winemaker gets hold of good fruit and just runs with it. With a bright straw colour and a fine persistent bead, this feels a lot like drinking quality methode! Even the delicate flavour of apples, the brioche underneath and the tight acid line all make you wonder what is actually the base of this delicious beverage. The cider is a blend of ciders that have spent up to five years aging in the barrel on lees and has then spent another 12 months in the bottle. That savoury complexity is there in every mouthful. This is refreshing, complex, fun and beautifully packaged.
